Install explosion-proof sockets in the three-level distribution box

Explosion-proof sockets can be safely installed in a three-level distribution box by following strict wiring standards, using certified components, and ensuring proper grounding and sealing.

Preparation and Safety

Before installation, ensure the power supply is completely turned off to prevent electrocution or sparks in hazardous areas. Only use explosion-proof certified cables and sockets suitable for the specific hazardous zone (e.g., Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21, Zone 22) and rated for the intended current and voltage. Avoid unauthorized modifications, as altering the box or sockets can compromise explosion-proof integrity.

Wiring and Socket Installation

Open the terminal chamber cover of the distribution box and route the cables through the cable glands to the terminals. Connect the incoming power supply to the terminal block marked for “live,” “neutral,” and “earth” wires. Use a multimeter to verify correct connections.

Install the three-level sockets: For 220V outlets, use 10A for two-pin sockets and 16A for three-pin sockets. Mount sockets on a rail fixed with self-tapping screws for stability. Ensure the integrated load disconnect switch in the socket flange is properly aligned and functional.

Use appropriate wire sizes: Power lines: 6–8 mm² single-core copper wire (red, yellow, green)220V supply: 2. 5 mm² single-core copper wire (red and blue)Ground wire: 2. 5 mm² green-yellow striped wire.

Secure all connections and ensure the box cover is tightly fastened with screws and washers to maintain explosion-proof sealing.

Grounding and Protection

Proper grounding is critical. Connect the internal and external ground wires securely to prevent sparks. If the box is installed outdoors, fit a rain cover to prevent water ingress and corrosion.

Maintain the installation inclination below 5 degrees and place the box away from heat sources, collisions, and high-moisture areas.

Final Checks

Verify that all sockets and switches are correctly wired and functional. Ensure the explosion-proof rating of the box and sockets matches the hazardous area classification. Regularly inspect the box for damage or wear, and apply anti-rust oil to joint surfaces during maintenance.

By following these steps and using certified explosion-proof components, the three-level distribution box with sockets will operate safely in hazardous environments.
